You Can't Take It With You received the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 1937. On the surface it is a light romance between young adults from very different families. On closer inspection, it is a short course on the events leading up to World War II. The ensemble dove into the history, the movies, and cultural touchstones of depression-era America. Period music, hair, and costume helped create an authentic atmosphere.
Eighteen performers, a stage management team of four, plus two stage hands collaborated from early January through March seventh’s opening night. After the closing performance on Sunday, the collaboration continued through strike and culminated in a potluck cast and crew party on the stage, which had been reset to the magical empty space that has been holding a dizzying array of performing arts for about thirty-five years.

The Bremerton High School Robotics Team “BremerTron” had a great season, which culminated in the team winning second place at the Pacific Northwest Auburn District First Robotics Competition at Auburn High School.
Every year the robotics competition game is different and teams are tasked with building an "industrial sized" robot to compete. These robots are typically about 3'x3'x4' and they weigh 150+ pounds when complete.
This year’s game was “Reefscape." Teams were tasked with imagining their robots as underwater vehicles tasked with placing “coral” pieces onto a reef structure in order to rehabilitate it. Simultaneously teams had to remove harmful “algae” from the reef structure. At the end of the game, robots had to climb on to diving cages suspended by chains and lift themselves off of the floor to “return to the surface.”
“The team did a great job at this tournament and the previous tournament of working through problems and getting them solved,” said Blake Greisinger, BremerTron’s adviser.
Students in the First Robotics Club (BremerTron) can directly apply skills and knowledge learned in CTE classes to a team-oriented, large-scale project. “While it’s easy to see how a 3D mechanical design skill or a metal machining skill is directly applicable to the team there are other CTE skills such as graphic design, marketing, photography, public and improvisational speaking, and communication which are just as important to make the team a well organized and functional whole at the event," according to Mr. Greisinger.

Armin Jahr and View Ridge Elementary School replacement projects
As you may have seen in the Kitsap Sun, the interim Armin Jahr Elementary Campus (see image below), is on track for construction to begin this spring. Our Armin Jahr Transition Advisory Working Group has been key to the planning of our upcoming transition to ensure students, staff, and families are prepared.
Design work on the new schools is also progressing quickly. The team is wrapping up the Schematic Design phase, with excitement building as site plans and floor plans start to come into focus. Next, the team will begin working through the details - including interior layouts, playgrounds, and outdoor learning spaces. Our advisory committees continue to provide valuable feedback at each step, helping to shape schools that reflect the unique needs and character of their communities.

Consolidated facilities project
The Consolidated Facilities project is now officially underway following the Board’s approval of the design-build team of Abbott and Rice Fergus Miller. We’ve already started planning sessions with district staff and are conducting site studies and “Day in the Life” workshops with Transportation and Maintenance teams to better understand how to design a space that supports their everyday work.

District-Wide HVAC upgrades
For the district-wide HVAC upgrades, our team continues to move quickly through the design process so we can begin ordering the long-lead electrical equipment required for these upgrades. Unfortunately, supply chain issues continue to affect this project - most notably, a 24-month lead time for the transformer needed at Bremerton High School. Despite these delays, we’re working hard with our contractors and Puget Sound Energy to stay on track. We're also carefully reviewing costs and exploring all possible options to ensure we make the most of every bond dollar.
|
Thank you for your support!
As we continue to move forward, we’re keeping a close eye on market trends, supply chain constraints, and cost pressures that may impact timelines and budgets. While these challenges are real, we remain committed to keeping the community informed and involved every step of the way.
Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for your continued support!
